I didn’t see much of Kozhikode itself because we travelled straight to the Wayanad district in the village of Mothakkara. And I’ve been there ever since.
My biggest fear before my time in Kerala was the heat. My second biggest fear was the (too spicy) food. Neither of these were there. Even in Kozhikode I was amazed that I wasn’t sweating from every pore straight away, but I was still a little too hot. And then we went up the road into the mountains and here I didn’t even have to switch on the fan. Whew. There will be more information about the food in the next posts.
The journey is about 80 kilometres long and takes 3 hours. And there was a lot to see and photograph along the way:
It was terribly winding up the first hill. I heard about buses that were all covered in vomit and I also felt quite dizzy. Maybe it’s more fun on a motorbike? Fortunately, this part of the route wasn’t that long.
Then it became slowly dark
The next day I could see my green surroundings:
And there was a mountain as a view.
Mothakkaram is a village at an altitude of around 800 metres with around 2,000 houses. They are set back from the road. I don’t yet know where the beginning and end of the village actually are. But you can read more about this in the next blog post 😉
